Many countries are increasing their protections for people who want to express themselves without risking physical harm. This is not to say that we should give up our rights because someone was upset with something we said.Another freedom is freedom of association. This can be a lot more tricky than free speech. Most people have no idea how much freedom of association is actually protected in our society. This is because of the complicated process involved in defining this term.In relation to the subject of free speech, there are other issues to deal with as well. People are concerned about the issue of offensive language. This is often used as a basis for banning certain phrases and insults. Even in situations where no words were used or offensive, these terms were still considered slurs.As long as you understand that some words are out of bounds, there will be a common response to those that may be offensive. Obviously if the problem is with the words, the proper solutions will be to change the language. This does not make it okay to ban those that use the language.Private businesses also make the choice to be more accepting of that use of language. It is not only individuals that need to be educated on the topic of offensive speech. Those who own businesses should make a point to use these types of language in their policies as well.The most common word to be banned is 'gay.' As long as the use of 'gay' is kept to a minimum, the government does not have the power to prohibit it. Government laws are usually intended to protect the feelings of another group by making it easier for that group to sue the government.Free speech is an important part of many countries, even if the original intent was to limit it. Remember that the words are always going to be considered offensive. What is important is that you stand up for what you believe in.
